Using Balustrades

Experienced wedding and event planners know how to set and decorate colonnade arches, balustrades and other décor to create a dazzling focal point that commands attention. But when the idea is to create a thematic or attractive backdrop to support a focal point rather than create one, a different approach is needed.

Scenic artists in the art department for the Disney Channel, for example, decorated two straight balustrades with flowers and greenery behind news anchors Sonny Raines and Flip Flopperstein for the “Really Short Report.” This created a Cinderella’s castle-meets New York’s Central Park feeling for a promo in support of the movie “Enchanted”.

Mix and Match Round and Straight

The traditional straight and newer, rounded balustrade corner share the same height and the same flat sides so any combination of straights and curves can be mixed and matched in virtually any shape or continuous length.

Rounded Balustrade in Photo Gallery

Wedding planner Torre Love of PureLove Weddings, Atlanta, Ga., set two white, rounded balustrade corners together to create a single curve that focused attention on the bride, groom and pastor from both sides of the church aisle.

“One of the reasons our business has done well is the creative way in which we use columns and pedestals from MOD,” says Ms. Love.
